Paper products are astonishingly expensive. Bring your own feminine hygiene supplies, disposable diapers, paper towels, facial tissues, and toilet paper. Do not assume there will be paper in ANY washroom. (However, perhaps a word of caution. In Lima, I was once told that a woman who has paper products in her purse is assumed to be a prostitute!)
Peru has many different climates. In the Andes, it can get seriously cold; in the jungle, it’s hot and humid (don’t forget your bug dope!); along the coast, there’s desert. (In Lima, it only rains every few years.)
You can save a LOT on accommodation if you stay someone where they don’t speak English.
There is much of historical and cultural interest. The following are UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Peru:
Chan Chan Archaeological Zone
Chavin (Archaeological site)
City of Cuzco
Historic Centre of Lima
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
Historical Centre of the City of Arequipa
Huascaran National Park
Lines and Geoglyphs of Nasca and Pampas de Jumana
Manu National Park
Rio Abiseo National Park
Sacred City of Caral-Supe.
Remember that Peru is on the other side of the Equator. So summer here is winter there, and vice versa.
