  1. This is an update to the latest edition published in 2008. I took this guide with me in Peru 9.9. Over the past nine years I lived and traveled all over Peru. Frommer’s keep surprising new information about Peru. Kudos. Particularly informative is the first section of Frommer’s, “What’s New in Peru.” Frommer’s in Cuzco, Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail section which occupies only 100 pages and information are excellent. If you intend only to these places, then this part of the guide is a good enough reason to buy Frommer’s. Moreover, for ornithologists (bird watchers too) Peru is one of the largest countries in the world and Frommer has good coverage of how, where and with whom.

In the world of Peru guides (I’ve reviewed this year five), there are two kinds of guides, manuals that are written during the pilgrimage / Explorer / backpacking travel sites for visitors who want to “normal” but also “off the beaten path” (Footprint, Let’s Go and Lonely Planet [the best LP, see my comments]), and then there are the guides for travelers who like comfort, have money and only visit the main tourist attractions: Cusco [Machu Picchu], Puno [Lake Titicaca] Arequipa [Colca Canyon], Lima, Iquitos and the Nazca Lines. . . Here is how Fodor and Frommer’s. Fodor

Frommer’s is much better in many ways, and compared to all the guides, Frommer’s excels in providing users with important and essential information needed to plan your trip (entry requirements , health, travel resources, when to go, suggested itineraries, recommended reading, etc..) So, if you’re staying on the trail, then this guide will be good to have in the backpack.

Frommer’s recommendations for restaurants in Cusco is much better than driving in 2005, but still not to be. Cicciolina ‘Restaurant “is a must, but then the’ Inca Grill is expensive, so that food and tourism objectives. Check online for current TripAdvisor restaurants or have a professional place where you eat. Be careful to ask the local guides for restaurant recommendations, since they are typically aimed at a tourist restaurant and then a free meal in the restaurant and commissions.

If you are not going to Peru and explore outside of the equal-path is a very good guide. For those who want to take the road less traveled by Lonely Planet. Frommer’s Peru is highly recommended four. 5 Stars

  2. I think the first reviewer may have a chip on his shoulder and stayed at home, wherever you are. As someone who grew up in Peru and return often, I think the author of Peru Frommer’s did a very good job, especially considering that most guides do not know much about how tourism has many heritage sites in danger of the country. Neil Schlecht, of course, concerns and let readers know, politely, they have to walk softly through this beautiful country.

love the fact that I realized that many interesting places – La Casa de Melgar Arequipa is a great place to stay, for example, and it was exciting to read your section in Cajamarca, a city under the My Arequipa Peru favorite later. I liked the section

Best of Peru, though he has lost the best markets / shopping section and I like to read more about how threatening even tourists are textiles and folk art traditions as they want cheap shopping. For example, artists are increasingly using synthetic textile yarn and dyes because they are tired of visitors to barter for a few cents on an article that took weeks or even months to make. Take a moment to consider that people of faith textiles and folk art from Peru for food, feed and educate their children and have the right to enjoy their work and are treated with respect and dignity – face to face for the first reviewer ! P <> Peru is in many ways, such as India, as they could travel every year for the rest of your life and not see everything. Personally, I would follow the advice Schlecht and lower the “tourist route” in the north, the central highlands – the Valle del Mantaro, Tarma, Chanchamayo Valley to discover the true * Peru, however, the flavor of the month.

Good for you, and good for Neil Schlecht Frommer’s. I hope to continue to publish Peru Frommer’s and update it frequently.

I just returned from my trip in Peru and I have purchased the 2008 last updated tourist information on Peru. This book was very useful, as well as blogs and forums on the Frommer’s website. However, I was disappointed to discover that although it was the last edition published prices for a lot of things were obsolete or not at all clear what type threw our budget for the trip. A good example is tourism “ticket” that can be purchased in Cusco to visit a lof of tourist attractions in the area. The book, published at a cost of S/70 and S/130 actual cost per person. Unfortunately, prices of tourist attractions and transportation have increased dramatically in Peru. It is unfortunate that I only paid more for the latest information and prices on a trip to Peru and have come to find that the price information was inaccurate at times. Other than that I give a positive assessment of this guide.

You can never go wrong with a travel guide Frommer’s. I borrowed this book from the library when I went hiking in Peru. We are not disappointed if none of the suggestions. I recommend Frommer’s when you’re planning a vacation.

Frommer’s Peru I thought was very useful and fairly accurate except for a restaurant in Cusco, the Greens, who had moved and become vegitarian. Y “descriptions and opinions were enlightening, if not overly conservative points. I would have liked more about Lima. Bood discouraged travelers go there, but I thought it was very beautiful Miraflores. Highly recommended for all those who come to Peru.
